Selective Elective

Chandler Chamber Launches Career Exploration Partnership with Conley Elementary

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with Conley Elementary School on a new career exploration program designed to inspire and empower the next generation of talent. This innovative initiative, known as Selective Elective, brings career literacy into the classroom by connecting local professionals with 5th and 6th grade students.

About The Program

Each week, participating professionals volunteer one hour of their time to lead hands-on activities that introduce students to real-world career paths. These sessions give students a chance to explore fields like technology, healthcare, engineering, culinary arts, and more—through engaging, age-appropriate lessons rooted in real-life experience.

By tying classroom learning to real-world possibilities, students begin to see how their interests and skills connect to future career options. They gain exposure to practical skills, build confidence, and start to envision what’s possible for their future.

“When students get early exposure to different career pathways, it helps them start to see what’s possible for the future,” said Lisa Shore, Principal of Conley Elementary School. “It builds confidence, sparks curiosity, and gives them a reason to connect what they’re learning in school to their own interests and goals.”

Why It Matters

This partnership reflects the Chamber’s long-term commitment to workforce development and employer engagement. As businesses across the region face growing talent shortages, Selective Elective offers an opportunity to get involved early in the talent pipeline—long before high school or college decisions are made.

“The earlier we connect students to real careers, the better it is for everyone,” said Terri Kimble, President & CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. “This partnership helps businesses get directly involved in developing the next generation of professionals.”
